Makis Baklatzis

Makis Baklatzis is a lecturer in violin at the Department of Music Studies, University of Ioannina, where he also leads ensembles focused on Greek musical traditions. He is a founding member of olipoli NGO – Community of Music & Research.

He earned his degree in Traditional Violin Interpretation and Performance from the University of Macedonia and completed a postgraduate program in World Music Violin Performance at the Rotterdam Conservatoire in The Netherlands.

He has worked in primary, secondary and tertiary education as a musician and has led music seminars in Greece, France, Switzerland and Belgium. He is an active musician in the field of Greek traditional and contemporary music, as well as the world music scene, and is a member of Bratimia Orchestra, Rosal Trio, Gmbt (duo with Stamatis Pasopoulos), Loxandra, Mordana and Contrabando Ensembles.

In addition to playing and teaching violin, he is also active as a folk singer, performing as a soloist at renowned venues and festivals worldwide, including Opéra de Rennes (France), Théâtre Régional de Constantine (Algeria), Podium Mozaïek (Netherlands), De Centrale Ghent (Belgium), Thessaloniki Concert Hall (Greece), Kulturmarkt and Mediterranean Music Festival (Switzerland), and Festival del Mediterraneo a Perugia (Italy).
